Patti Engelbrecht
I’ve always been a folk artist, but several years ago I realized I was painting like an uptight Grandma Moses. That’s when my art transitioned on its own to abstract folk art. Ahh, I could breathe again, and play with my paints like when I was a kid.
Wise Linda, my friend who owns Gallery 3040 in Old Forge, New York, thinks the transition to abstract folk art started with my 2015 painting Harvest Moon, Lunar Eclipse. Look closely in the upper-left-hand side of the painting; you’ll see some of my old-style painting peeking through. The painting turned out great…pentimento at its best!
Here are some quirky things about me:
These are a few of my favorite things.
I’d rather have an armful of fresh dill than an armful of roses. (The scent of dill brings me back to my childhood. My Dziadzi, that’s Polish for Grandpa, used to grow dill in his backyard for making pickles.)
I love making art journals.
I love handmade brooms!
I adore moss.
My favorite feather.
As a very young child, I made my own “pull-toys” and board games from egg cartons, jingle bells, yarn, a wind-up panda bear toy, etc. (Creativity runs in my family.)
