Journey 2:

Picture
Create an imaginary room
that’s all for you.
Nobody else is allowed in your room.
What does “your room”
look like,
smell like,
sound like?

Find a comfy chair
in a quiet place.
Sit down.
CLOSE YOUR EYES...
THINK ABOUT ALL THE THINGS
YOU REALLY REALY LOVE

not things you think

you’re supposed to love.

What things make your heart skip a beat when you see them?
They don’t have to be things that you own,
just things that you’re drawn to.

The things in your room
can be things from your childhood
that made you feel
safe and loved.

The things in your room
can be things that you
dream of owning.

The list
of what you can put in your room
is endless.

Here is a teeny sampling of choices:

Overstuffed arm chair,
leather recliner,
bean bag chair
or a hammock?

Handmade pottery
or your Grandma’s bone china tea cups?

Bed with fluffy down comforter,
handmade crazy quilt,
or crisp clean tailored bedding?

Flannel sheets,
linen sheets,
or satin sheets?

A velvet throw,
or an afghan that you knitted or crocheted?

A piano,
a guitar
or a microphone in the corner,
just waiting to be used?

Does your room have books,
art supplies,
games or toys?

How about sporting goods,
a pinball machine,
or a sewing machine?

Does your room have a dog,
a cat
or some other animal
that you once had,
have now,
or would love to own?

Does your room have famous art,
like Claude Monet’s water lily murals,
a country landscape painting
by Grandma Moses,
or a bold Picasso painting?

Tiffany lamps,
old-fashioned street lamp
or sleek modern floor lamps?

Are there beeswax candles
or a fireplace?

Is your furniture traditional,
rustic
or contemporary?

What colors are the walls:
white,
bright bold colors,
muted pastels,
or Ralph Lauren-type earth tones?

Stained glass windows
or gigantic open windows
with sheer billowing curtains overlooking a balcony?

If you open the windows,
do you hear birds chirping,
ocean waves,
or leaves quietly floating to the forest floor?

Now look out the windows.
Do you see a desert,
a forest,
acres of luscious flowers,
fresh herbs,
topiaries,
a secret garden,
mountains,
or a stream?

These are pieces of the puzzle of who you are.
Have fun with this.
There are no right or wrong answers.
The room you create says a lot about
who you are,
where you’ve been
and where you are going.
